Roy June graduated with class of 44B as a 2nd Lt. Pilot and  then assigned to Blacksburg Air Base in Virginia for transition training in the P-47.

There were 40 pilots in this transition training and half of them were assigned to the European theater of operation and half of them to the Pacific and Roy was in the latter group  into intense training for that assignment.

The rest of Lt. Junes missions were flown primarily in support of the B-29s bombing Tokyo and they were eight- hour missions with the P-51s  setting records for flying time with wing tanks an fuselage tanks and the pilot expertise in fuel management. The other missions were low level strafing and attack missions on Japanese shipping and land targets  On June 10th ,1945 June and his flight leader were credited with downing an enemy aircraft and later on his wingman and he sent a Hamp down in smoke over Tokyo.  The following  is  Lt.
