USNR Ret   Joined his B24(PB4Y) Squadron as a pilot In Feb 1944 and flew raids in the Marianas and Leyte shooting down 5 Japanese Aircraft. Awarded 2 DFC's , 9 Air Medals, Fleet Commendation and the Presidential Citation. Commander Stanley also served in the Korean War. His So Pacific Squadron was the famous " Blue Raiders " discussed below.
"Blue Raiders receive the Presidential Unit Citation." This was Lt CMD Lee Stanley's Squadron named the Blue Raiders by Tokyo Rose in a radio transmission, and the name stuck This squadron was commissioned at Camp Kearney in San Diego Feb 1st 1944 and Lee Stanley was in that first contingent. Their squadron logo shown above was designed by Walt  Disney and shows an enraged Mustang  stomping on a Japanese warship Ship with a Bomb shown in the background and Palm Trees to indicate their duty in the So Pacific. 

Their record of 210 ships sunk, 274 ships damaged,  58 enemy aircraft destroyed, 300 attacks on missions averaging 11 hours for total destroyed tonnage of 205,235 tons, Will go down in Naval history as on of the greatest war time accomplishments

Marh 29th 2006 . Lee Stanley receiving his 2nd Distinguished Flying Cross from Colonel James Braden USMC Chief of Staff 29 palms Marine Corp Base. The award was made to Lt. Commander  Lee Stanley USN RET., 63 years after he earned it.
